Reliable Stink Bug Removal Services

Any unwelcome bug in your home or commercial building is something that could really stink up your day — sometimes literally. Stinks bugs are actually quite harmless, they don’t spread disease, cause structural damage to buildings, and typically don’t bite. However, the bug has glands that emit an odor that is described as a skunk’s scent or rotted cilantro. If you’re having issues with stink bugs around your home, contact the pest control team at Safety Fumigant Company. Located in Hingham, we serve residents and commercial businesses throughout the area.

Quick Tips on Keeping Stink Bugs Out

  • Seal off entry points, such as pipes, chimneys, siding, and cracks.
  • Replace or repair damaged window screens.
  • Stink bugs are attracted to light, so turn off porch lights at night.
  • Inspect pipes and drains for leaks to prevent moisture.
  • Ventilate the basement or use a dehumidifier to remove moisture.
  • Keep food tightly sealed and keep the garbage area clean.
  • Never kill a stink bug by squishing it, that’s when they emit their powerful odor.

Stink Bug Control

Stink bugs are roughly the size of a dime, have flat bodies that are shaped similarly to a shield or triangle, and have a grayish-brown body. Stink bugs feed on fruits and plants and like to live in a warm environment. When the weather starts getting cold outside in the fall season, they will climb through any open space available to get inside your warm home.

If you have seen stink bugs around your home or office, it’s best to work with a pest control company that can ensure that they are safely and entirely removed — and done so without the bugs emitting a foul odor. Safety Fumigant Company has years of experience working throughout Massachusetts and has thoroughly exterminated rodentstermites, and many other pests. The Scoop on Massachusetts Stink Bugs

Unfortunately, Massachusetts is home to several species of stink bugs, and, they all stink! Due to the cooler temperatures that keep New England mild, stink bugs are prone to taking up residence in your home. At Safety Fumigant Company Pest Control Services, we work hard to keep these home invaders out of Hingham and the surrounding Massachusetts communities. Want to know what the critter in your home or lawn is? Here are the three stink bugs you might see.

Western Conifer Seed Bug

The easiest way to tell if you’re looking at a Western conifer seed bug is to check the back legs. They have wide, flat flares on their hind legs, similar to bell-bottom jeans. They also sport a thin, zig-zagging white line across the middle of their body. Western Conifer Seed Bugs are native to the west coast and are common here in Massachusetts. They can be found congregating by the hundreds on the sides of light-colored buildings, on doors and window screens where there is a lot of sun. They can be found wandering around homes and other buildings whenever there is a burst of warmer weather in the winter or early spring. And, like all stink bug breeds, Western Conifer Seed Bugs will release a “stinky” liquid when startled.

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

If you’re trying to tell if you’re looking at a brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), you’ll notice a round, compact body with tiny flecks or “marbling.” Unlike the Western Conifer Seed Bug, they have antennae marked by two distinct, light-colored bands. In true stink bug fashion, their trademark is emitting a stinky liquid when they are startled. BMSB is a highly invasive and destructive species of stink bug that was first spotted in Massachusetts in 2007. Other states are dealing with hundreds of thousands of gathering stink bugs, but levels remain relatively low here in Hingham and it’s important to keep it as such.
